About A Prophet to The Nations

Sickness in the West

The time has come to look into the eyes of the ugly truth: the soul of Western Civilization is sick and is gasping it's last breaths.

This is seen everywhere, if we only look. On the social side, it's seen in the 40-percentage point drop in marriage since 1960. It's seen in sexual promiscuity. It is seen in the increase in criminal activity, unnatural and deviant sexual behavior, epidemic drug use, etc. On the individual side, it's seen in the record number of people worldwide suffering from anxiety, depression, loneliness, lack of fulfillment, fear, and existential dread. We feel it when the food doesn't satisfy, when the money doesn't satisfy, when the things we buy don’t satisfy. With each new thing, we feel more and more empty, until at last, hope is slowly forgotten. In the desperation that results from fading hope, humanity seeks even more desperately the next new thrill, like thirsty sailors turning to sea water.

Hope is what keeps the soul alive and the psyche stable. But hope itself MUST have a basis. It is not---nor can it be---its own object, for we hope IN someone or FOR something. The foundation of hope must therefore be greater than a hope for health or a large family or a desire that tomorrow will somehow be better than today. A solid foundation for hope must provide what the soul and spirit of mankind seeks the most: meaning and eternal value. So that when health, family, or a better tomorrow do not manifest, hope still has power. Without meaning, there is no purpose, no value, and that which has no value is cast aside and burned. The soul and spirit feel this, but because they have no voice, they cannot speak, so they do the only thing they can to get attention, and thus the paralyzing anxiety, prolonged depression, and existential dread. Though antidepressants, anxiolytics, and antipsychotics are useful and helpful, they should not be thought of as long term solutions to spiritual and existential issues.

In today's world, science has taken over as the sole authority over health and even public policy. Though it works well in the material world on material problems, it has no way of treating that which is immaterial. Science has not proved that the soul and spirit exist, so it obviously doesn't have answers or material treatment for our spiritual and immaterial problem.

Yet, science is hallowed and deified as seen in the following quote from a Pfizer commercial:

"In a time when things are most uncertain, we turn to the most certain things there is: science.... That's the power of science.... Science will win..." This fervor for science has lead us to scientism: an excessive BELIEF in the power of scientific knowledge and techniques.

“scientism” from Oxford dictionary.

Science cannot save us. It cannot save us because it is cold, calculating, and impersonal. Science is more likely to conclude that human beings are a blight on the earth and on nature, and therefore humanity must be controlled at best, or forcibly limited at worst.

(Enter eugenics and planned parenthood)

For those who think that eugenics died in the past, you couldn't be more wrong. It didn’t even trip, and is alive and well today. One would think that this idea of forcibly limiting population by elimination of the weak and unwanted, would be repulsive and unethical. Nevertheless, it is practiced (though quietly and without fanfare) for the cause of a stronger, healthier, smarter society.

At the end of the day, deep in our hearts and minds, whether we like to admit it or not, we know that humanity needs salvation.

The phrase, "...wouldn't it be great if there was somone who could save us from ourselves..." is heard frequently from individuals, songs, news, etc. That phrase is the anguish and pain in the soul and spirit. The more the phrase is used, the more we see the sickness of the soul of Western Civilization.

GOOD NEWS!! There is someone who can save us from ourselves and from much more!

Jesus Christ is the atonement for sin and salvation for all peoples.

…Let it be known to all of you and to all the people that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead—by him this man is standing before you well... And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

Acts 4:10-12.

Grace and peace to you, may the Lord bless you and keep you, may the Lord make His face shine upon you and give you peace.
